Post 2 of 6 – Bring It Home
Sustainability Isn’t Just Strategy — It’s a Lifestyle
Practicing sustainability at the organizational and national level was impactful, but I knew the real test was whether I could live the values I promoted. For me, it wasn’t enough to implement sustainability from the top down, I wanted to bring it home, literally.
That meant rethinking how I used energy, consumed resources, and moved around in my personal life.
It started with my home. I installed PV panels on my rooftop, allowing me to generate clean energy and drastically reduce my electricity bill. The feeling of watching my meter spin backward and seeing a near-zero energy bill each month? Priceless.
Then came my fully electric vehicle. No more trips to the gas station. No more worrying about global fuel price spikes. My energy independence extended from my roof to my driveway.
Inside the house, I switched to energy-efficient appliances and LED lighting, making my entire living space smarter and more sustainable.
The benefits?
✔ Significantly lower utility bills
✔ Freedom from gas price fluctuations
✔ A quieter, cleaner, more intentional way of living
And the best part? This was the easiest part of my personal sustainability journey.
It showed me that small, deliberate changes in how we power and run our homes can create a lasting ripple effect on the environment, our finances, and our peace of mind.
This was the beginning of aligning my personal footprint with my professional mission — a journey that would soon lead me to dig deeper… quite literally.
